Salesforce FQ1 earnings: Tomorrow

May 21, 2008

There’s a lot out about NYSE:CRM’s possible performance tomorrow and with the stock down around its close support level (61$~) there may be a big rebound depending on how things go.

Citigroup’s Brent Thill asserted what the Motley Fool seems to agree with, CRM has to beat earnings expectations and must do so in order to stay impressive. If it merely meets the estimates set out for it, the quarter will be considered a failure based on it’s previous three quarters performance.

From what I’m reading here, if it beats the estimate expect a lot of movement on CRM for the next little while, if it hits the target or (somehow) falls below it the stock might see a slowdown or a slump. It might anyway, as CRM has been shown to traditionally underperform during the May-July period.

Motley Fool’s article is here, Clusterstock has a clipping from Brent Thill’s comments and lastly the an official SF webcast is scheduled for today at 5 pm EST and can be found here.

Faceforce.

May 20, 2008

You heard me, Faceforce.

Created by Clara Shih, a product manager on the AppExchange, Faceforce brings a potential user the ability to link a contact in Salesforce to a userpage on Facebook. Upon linking the two, Faceforce will harvest basically any piece of information available from the Facebook userpage, and store it in within the appropriate contact’s information.

An excellent example of the sales applications of this is found in the Faceforce demo on the official website, when the demonstrator looks into a demo client’s profile to reveal he really likes Family Guy, a tidbit of information that might be very useful for someone looking to start up a casual sales call.

I don’t know if a prospective client is going to be amused by Meg’s special pie for Brian, but if it’s in his Facebook profile, chances improve significantly.

The post that put me on to it is here, more good info over here, and the official site here.

Salesforce at work: Canon Japan

May 15, 2008

It was announced today that Salesforce was the choice of choices for Canon Marketing Japan. After a five month prep starting in October of 2007, the integration of 22 of Canon MJ’s systems including all of their SFA has been completed and pushed live in February 2008.

22 different pieces of software, 15 languages, less than 6 months, 4000 subscribers and counting, all of these are very good looking numbers.

The post du jour is here.

I want Evernote. (correction)

May 14, 2008

Edited 14th May, 2008

Apologies to the readers of The Salesforce Times! In my great excitement regarding the form and function of stylish new app Evernote, I got a few wires crossed while reading six or seven things at once and trying to absorb more information that was probably wise. Evernote was not in fact developed by any Salesforce related individuals, but rather what I meant to get across was that as an App for collaboration (the theme of Dreamforce Europe ‘08) it was in my opinion pretty much the bees knees of news ideas. Sorry for the mixup and thanks to Mark in comments for snapping my attention to my enthusiastic blunder.

/

Evernote by, well, Evernote Corporation is a nifty little web application that allows a potential user to just copy chunks off the web or upload photographs from a phone or other mobile device and store it for later in what appears to be a highly intelligent organizer, intelligent because it actually looks in to images and reads the text straight out of the picture, even handwriting.

As an individual who could likely bludgeon an entire endagered species out of existance with just the notebooks he has stored around his home, I can see this application as having a very real impact on the way I deal with the information and ideas that I produce, so that really brings it home for me.

I’m honestly still wrapping my head around the business uses, suffice it to say I’m sure it won’t be a short list.

The post that put me on to Evernote is here and Evernote’s overview page is here.

Salesforce.com on Twitter

May 14, 2008

Summize is a cool (new?) search tool that enables you to monitor what people are talking about via tools such as Twitter.

I did a search this AM to check out what people are “tweeting” about Salesforce.com. Click here to take a look at the results.

Salesforce.com stock to jump May 22nd?

May 12, 2008

Based on all the attention NYSE:CRM has been getting of late, and how the share price has reacted to positive news and rumors of the past, we’ll likely see a jump in shares of Salesforce.com at market open on May 22nd.

So what’s so important about the 22nd? It’s the first day after Salesforce releases its q1 financial results.

From the official release:

Salesforce.com announced that its first quarter and fiscal 2009 results will be released on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, after the close of the market. The company will host a conference call at 2:00 PM (PT) / 5:00 PM (ET) to discuss the financial results with the investment community. A live web broadcast of the event will be available on the salesforce.com Investor Relations website at http://www.salesforce.com/investor. A live dial-in is available domestically at 866-901-SFDC or 866-901-7332 and internationally at 706-902-1764. A replay will be available at (800) 642-1687 or (706) 645-9291, passcode 46678383, until midnight (ET) June 13, 2008.

Salesforce and iPhone, chococlate and vanilla

May 12, 2008

Information overload!

With what feels like every Salesforce blogger and reporter on earth arriving home from Dreamforce Europe, the amount of information available to the SFDC-saavy has been a little overwhelming of late. I have therefore chosen to completely forgo more critical or business-important stories to bring you the coolest Dreamforce Europe gadget.

Salesforce, on the iPhone.

Well, not really Salesforce per se, rather an application by Model Metrics utilizing the fresh-out-of-the-oven Visualforce suite. Model Metrics has used Visualforce to strikingly mimic the iPhone’s native interface, giving Salesforce a new kind of chameleonic power. This is real follow-through by Salesforce, as last year at Dreamforce 2007 a significantly more primitive demo app was shown on the iPhone.

I read about the app a few days ago here, Model Metrics is here, and if you’re curious what they demonstrated last year check here.

Salesforce.com Summer 2008 release notes reviewed

May 11, 2008

Steve Anderson of Gokubi blog fame, recently posted a good commentary on the Summer 2008 version release notes. Check it out here.

Not much more to add to that one ;)

He has a dream, for collaboration

May 9, 2008

With Dreamforce Europe’s dizzying highs and mind-shattering lows finally coming to a close, the Salesforce blog and news community is still reeling from the influx of new information.

The Salesforce Summer ‘08 Sandbox, alliteration aside, is one of the most interesting things to be brought to my attention so far.  Basically the trumpets are blaring and the Salesforce machine is calling all developers to increase their collaboration and get to work on improving their apps by sharing the little things, giving everyone a more user-friendly application in the end.

The news that put me on to it is here at VNUNet and the official SF blog has the details.
